LOCATION:Various Venues - Victoria :: Victoria,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
The Victoria Django Festival is pleased to announce the fifth annual festival with this year's international headliner, the Hot Club D'Europe! Featuring Paulus Schafer, a renowned musician born into the Dutch Sinti tradition, and Olli Soikkeli, a young Finnish virtuoso and rising star in the gypsy jazz world, the Hot Club D'Europe brings old world mastery all the way from The Netherlands for two exclusive concerts. Also headlining the 2016 event are Vancouver-based Petunia & The Vipers, a veteran five piece featuring one of the most astonishing vocalists in western swing, traditional, and old time music. Petunia's signature yodel and innovative style combined with Vancouver's very best players has been called "one of the best bands [I've] ever seen in close to 50 years of attending gigs", by Americana UK.

Bulgarian-born Vancouverite Lache Cercel and The Roma Swing Ensemble (featuring Miriam Bellamore) will be exploring the roots of the Roma Music that inspired Django Reinhardt, as hometown heroes The Marc Atkinson Trio, and Trio Voltaire (featuring Richard Moody) round out the weekend. The combination of talent on stage at any time is sure to make way for some jaw-dropping moments, amid the concert and cabaret seating with a full dance floor, food and beverage service and engaging extras.
=0D=0A=

Friday night at White Eagle Hall will kick off the weekend with a cabaret style dance in the chandelier lit upper hall featuring the sizzling tunes of Petunia & The Vipers and The Marc Atkinson Trio, as well as the Speakeasy in the lower hall, with an ongoing jam session of festival acts. Saturday night's Main Event promises an epic experience with the Opera House Stage (concert-style) in St. Andrews Church and Hot Club (dance party) in the Kirk Hall, featuring Hot Club D'Europe, Petunia & the Vipers, Lache Cercel and the Roma Swing Ensemble, Trio Voltaire festuring Richard Moody, and perhaps a special guest or two.

Becoming a tradition of the Victoria Django Festival, all the events are stocked with delicious nibbles and quenching libations from local sponsors Hoyne Brewery, The Whole Beast, The Hot and Cold Cafe and Pizzeria Prima Strada, as well as dance competitions hosted each night by The Swing Dance Association of Victoria, with prizes valued up to $200.

New this year, The Victoria Django Festival is presenting a special 4-course, French-inspired Valentine's Day dinner by Guest Chef Cosmo Meens, paired with international headliner Hot Club D'Europe, at Hermann's Jazz Club. There is no more romantic way to spend Valentine's than in this intimate, historic venue with one of Victoria's best chefs and a trio of some of the world's best Djangologists. Tickets include a gourmet meal valued at $55 and the concert, and are available at the same outlets as other festival events. Guests may call the reservation number on the ticket to arrange their seating in advance.
=0D=0A=

Also new to the festival this year is the offer of Early Bird Ticket Sales, saving those who plan in advance $10-20 off the door price. Combination deals for Friday and Saturday are available, as well as individual tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night's shows. Advance tickets can be purchased at Ditch Records, Larsens Music, Lyle's Place, and Hoyne Brewery.

Returning again this year is Djangocamp, an afternoon workshop with feature Djangologists the Hot Club D'Europe and Lache Cercel, at Larsen Music. The workshops are for anyone who wants to learn or practice the style, but space is limited! Interested students may contact 250-389-1988 ext 320 for more information and to sign up for the camp.
