Starting things off on the right foot.

In Scotland, the New Year is celebrated as Hogmanay, the Scots word for the last day of the year.

First-footing is an ancient tradition still in common use, whereby the ëfirst footí in the house after midnight ensures good luck for the household... but only if he brings symbolic gifts such as coal to lovingly place on the hostís fire, along with shortbread, a black bun and whisky to toast the New Year.

There is tremendous power in beginning something with intention, and our joy and success will be the result of the luck we ourselves create when we fuse that intention with action. What gifts will cross your threshold on Hogmanay? We wish you an eagle's feather for wisdom, a deer antler for gentle compassion, a cedar bough for utility and a sunflower for happiness as we all take our first steps into the white snow of a fresh New Year.
