It's a day to be thankful and to feel gratitude, but we call it thanksgiving. There's food for thought in that difference.
Gathered around the table, we feel thankful for the life that we have and gratitude to those we share it with. But what a powerful thing it is to say Thank You aloud; whether it be for growing the food, sharing the food, cooking the food...or for being the food.
A Japanese proverb says The scent of flowers lingers on the hands of the one who gives them. So the thanks-giving isn't only for the receiver after all. It's a shared gift.
And who doesn't love the scent of flowers lingering in the autumn air?
