VIDEA invites everyone to shop with a conscience at their annual Fair Trade Fair, and support fair trade businesses in our community. This Fair Trade Marketplace, organized by the Victoria International Development Education Association (VIDEA), will feature a range of fairly traded crafts from over 30 local vendors, as well as food from the International Women’s Catering Co-op, fun, friends, music and dance, and holiday cheer.

By ‘voting’ with their holiday dollar, Victoria shoppers can empower workers and producers from developing countries as well as help save endangered ecosystems.

“People often don’t realize that many of the gifts that they buy at this time of year are made in sweatshops overseas that are contracted by multinational corporations making huge profits. The workers can barely support themselves and labour rights are rarely recognized.” The Fair Trade system offers an alternative for shoppers wanting to support workers, protect ecosystems and provide a sustainable livelihood for producers and local businesses

This year’s fair will take place at First Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral Road, off Quadra in downtown Victoria, on Saturday, November 21st, from 10 am to 4 pm. Music by local musician Greg Wolfe throughout the day and MoonDance Dynamic Arts School will be performing at 3:30 pm. Admission is by donation, with a door prize drawn every hour.
