A Journey to the Remote Pacific: Diverse and Threatened Coral Reef Ecosystems
Dr. Julia Baum, assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Victoria, has journeyed to the remote central Pacific, to discover the incredible beauty of the Republic of Kiribatiís coral reefs and the challenges facing this island nation. Coral reefs are the oceanís most diverse ecosystems but also the most threatened. Her research focuses on understanding how anthropogenic disturbances, from exploitation to climate change, affect marine populations, and what the broader consequences of these changes are for marine community structure and function. Meet at 7:30 pm Rm 159 Fraser building, UVic. Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend and a coffee mug.
