CROSS CANADA FIDDLE presents

the VanIsle Fiddlers

Four weekly group classes for fiddlers, classical strings players, guitarists, pianists, mandolin players, and other acoustic musicians. Led by local professional musicians and music educators, Geoff Horrocks and Trish Clair-Peck, these classes focus on learning traditional folk and contemporary fiddle music from a variety of sources.

Trish Clair-Peck has been running the fiddle program in Nanaimo for 8 years, and the group has had great performance opportunities at a variety of festivals, celebrations, and private events in and around Nanaimo. The VanIsle Fiddlers is a fabulous, fun group of people aged 7 to 70+. New members are always welcomed!

3-4 pm -- Beginner Fiddle Repertoire
4-5pm -- Intermediate Fiddle Repertoire
In these classes students will learn popular tunes from across Canada, Ireland, Scotland, and beyond. The focus will be on building repertoire and learning by ear. Suitable for beginner/intermediate fiddle students or classical players who would like an introduction to folk fiddling.

5:30-6:30pm -- Intermediate "Plus" Ensemble
6:30-8pm -- Advanced Ensemble
The evening "folk orchestra" classes are for experienced musicians, preferably with some music reading skills. While we will still learn a new tune each class, the focus will be more on creating and preparing exciting multi-part performance arrangements of the music. There will be a singing component. These groups will also develop a repertoire of tunes to play at family barn dances.

Fees are $30/month or $10 for drop in. There will also be a materials fee TBA. Members are strongly encouraged to bring a recording device to each class.

Trish and Geoff also offer private instruction in fiddle, Suzuki violin, piano, guitar and mandolin.
