Sponsored by the Georgia Straight Jazz Society, the Thursday Jazz Club is in its fourth year of providing great jazz. During the past year, the Jazz Club has had over twenty different host combos, with well over 200 individual musicians from 13 to 80 years of age taking to the stage.

A different band appears each week in a relaxed, comfortable venue. Jamming musicians and vocalists can join in the final set of the evening.

We have heard jazz from all genres and styles including the music of Jazztet, Indigo, Larry Hale Combo, Streetlife, Velvet Swing, Just In Time Vocal Jazz Choirs, Cure All Dance Band, Arrowsmith Big Band, Joanna Finch, St. James Gait, The GS Youth Combo, The National All Star Combo, Vanier, Aspen Park and Lake Trail jazz bands, Georgia Straight Big Band, Jen Forsland Group, Ralph Barrat Combo, Dan Craven Septet, Ladies of Jazz and Jazz Noir.

The first section of the evening, beginning at 7:30 pm, is given over to the host band. Later, jazz musicians and vocalists of all ages and experience are invited to join on stage for a 'jam'.

The evening events are frequently used to support local charities or recognize community involvement.

The non-profit Georgia Straight Jazz Society, centered in the Comox Valley has a mandate to:
~ increase public awareness of and to nurture an appreciation for all forms of jazz
~ present performances by a wide variety of musicians representing all forms of jazz
~ stimulate the local jazz communities by producing events and activities in which artists can interact creatively
~ provide opportunities for school aged musicians to create jazz for a public audience
~ augment the educational instruction of school aged musicians in jazz performance, improvisation, and composition, including offering jazz education bursaries
~ establish and strengthen the jazz music community on Vancouver Island.
