About Ed Varney:
Ed Varney lived for most of his artistic career in Vancouver, moving there after earning a BA and an MA at Syracuse University in New York State. He has been a poet, an essayist and reviewer, a visual artist and owned a printing and publishing business in Vancouver for almost 20 years. He moved to Royston 13 years ago where he continues his subversive activity. In Vancouver, he was part of Intermedia in the late 60s and early 70s, the Museo Internacionale de Neu Art, a founder of several visual arts organizations including Artropolis and the Roundhouse, and a past board member of CVAG.
About Dada, Fluxus, and Mail Art:
The trajectory of Ed Varney’s thinking: Existentialism, Zen, and Dada. Varney will describe how he got involved with Mail Art and provide a short history of some of his projects. He will discuss Mail Art; where it came from and where it is going, namely Mail Art as a utopian political statement, as a post nationalist strategy, and as fun art. He will then take you on a quick look tour of the exhibition at CVAG and the international context for Mail Art.
