2018 Spring Season:

January 14 - Pianist Pablo Cardenas delivers a high-octane mix of Latin, trad, fusion and jazz.

January 21 - Courtin/Devoin/McRae Trio are well-seasoned performers who offer up classic jazz standards and originals.

January 28 - Salt Spring Island's vivacious vocalist Sue Newman lights up the stage with gems from the Great American Songbook. 

February 4 - Jon Miller Quartet  Parallel Universe Project features swing, groove and blues-infected jazz with B-3 organ marvel Tony Genge, powerhouse drummer Jon Milller, tasty guitarist Rob Cheramy and electrifying saxophonist Monik Nordine. $15

February 11 - Valentine's Tribute to Broadway sets the mood for romance with songs that honour the musicals that contributed so much to the jazz tradition with Marty Steele, Roger Christie, Larry Miller and Jenny Morgan. Music from The Wizard of Oz, Showboat, Phantom of the Opera, Guys & Dolls, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof and more. $15

February 18 - NMA Big Band, with its classic swing standards, contemporary funk, fusion and New Orleans beat, is one tight, versatile band featuring the full-throated, soulful jazz vocals of Sydney Needham, a former winner of Victoria has talent. $20

February 25 -  Ryan Oliver, a Juno-nominated tenor saxophonist, known for his melodic inventiveness and swinging time, has played major jazz clubs and festivals in Canada, the U.S. and even in Montreax, Switzerland. $15

March 4 - Ladies of Gospel with Maria Manna, Maureen Washington & April Gislason will rock your soul with classic soul and Motown gospel. Reservations recommended. 250-324-2245. $20.

March 11 - Diane Pancel, an international award-winning vocalist back from L.A., will entertain us with a cabaret-style show From Tin Pan Alley to Hollywood. $15

March 18 - N.O.L.A. NightHawks, Andrew Homzy's 10-piece orchestra, celebrates The Music of Old and New Orleans: The City that Gave Birth to Jazz. Reservations recommended. 250-324-2245. $20

March 25 - Lust Life Jazz Band featuring Bryn Badel on trumpet and the Cowichan Valley’s own saxman, Wayne Kozak, delivers ear food inspired by jazz, blues, bebop, funk and swing. $15

April 1 - Tenor saxophonist Ian Duncan has a relaxed lyrical sound rooted in the jazz of mid-century mainstream. Drawing on the influence of Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon and Lester Young, Duncan performs in a wide variety of musical contexts — West Coast cool jazz, soul jazz, Kansas City swing and electric jazz funk. $15

April 8 - Lister/Mcrae/Rhodes trio with songs of Gordon Lightfoot and more. $15

April 15 - The 17-piece Arrowsmith Big Band — with five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones and a four-piece rhythm section — will perform classic big band arrangements from Count Basie to the more contemporary stylings of today. Reservations recommended. 250-324-2245. $20

April 22 - Swing Shift Big Band from Salt Spring Island brings the World War II era alive with the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Hoagy Carmichael and Harry James. $20   

April 29 - The Company Men with Doug Farr on piano/vibes, Bill Kent on bass, Barry Grey on drums and James Burns on guitar. $15

May 6 - Victoria pianist Tom Vickery and Seattle's master saxophonist/flutist Mark Lewis will bring down the house. Lewis has composed over 1,700 pieces and recorded with everyone from George Cables to Randy Brecker and Bobby Hutcherson. $15

May  13 - David Vest, four-time winner of the Maple Blues Award Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year, is an authentic, Southern-bred boogie-woogie piano player, blues shouter and world-class entertainer. Reservations recommended. 250-324-2245. $15

May 20 -  Long weekend. No show.

May 27 -  Guitarist Sam Kirmayer's quartet with pianist Sean Fyfe, bassist John Lee and Valérie Lacombe on drums will playing music from Kirmayer's CD Opening Statement which recently won the Julian Award from Simon Fraser’s CJSF 90.1FM. Drawing inspiration from masters like Wes Montgomery and Grant Green, Kirmayer eschews effects in favour of a clear, direct tone and maintains firm roots in the blues and hard bop traditions. $15.

June 3 - Blaine Dunaway Quintet, with Dunaway on violin, chincello, flugelhorn, percussion and vocals; Budge Shackte and Jeff Drumond on guitar; John Hyde on bass, and a drummer, present  a show of original tunes. $15.

June 10 - Vocalist Susannah Adams CD release party. Don't miss this vivacious vocalist known for her improvisations and scatting as well as her blistering tempos and soulful ballads. Her absolute joy in singing is infectious. Reservations recommended 250-324-2245. $15

June 17 - Kit Eakle Trio featuring Michael Dunn, guitar, and Scott White, bass, present DjangoSphere celebrating Thelonious Sphere Monk's 100th year with compositions by Monk and Django Reinhardt, two of the most independent voices in jazz, along with originals performed in their spirit. $15.

June 24 - Chelsea McBride's Socialist Night School, a 19-piece modern jazz orchestra direct from Toronto, delivers avante-gard, dazzling, progressive jazz. This 25-year-old saxophonist, lyricist and orchestration super-nova will make you re-think your definition of big-band music.
