The Capital Regional District (CRD) invites the public to an open house regarding Island View Beach Regional Park, a 51 hectare park and campground in Central Saanich. CRD Regional Parks is updating the management plan for the park, which will reflect current conditions, set future direction for the park and provide a framework for exceptional parkland stewardship and outstanding visitor experiences.
“The open house will provide information on the status of the management planning process, feedback we’ve received from the public and next steps,” said Ian Hennigar, Acting General Manager for Parks and Community Services. “The CRD Regional Parks Committee has provided clear direction on the policies for developing the management plan. These policies relate to appropriate actions for ecological conservation around hydrology, coastal processes and mosquito habitat in the park.”
To ensure that the public’s interests are considered in the planning process, information gathered during the public consultation process will be used by CRD Regional Parks to help prepare an updated management plan for the park.
CRD staff is developing a draft plan which will go before the CRD Regional Parks Committee this spring before being released to the public.
Island View Beach Regional Park is a Regional Conservation Area, due to the presence of sensitive and threatened ecosystems, and a number of rare and endangered plant and wildlife species. It is one of the region’s most popular parks, with more than 325,000 visits annually.
