This is a coffee house held event once a month, on the third Friday, from September to June. It has been going since 1992 and is one of Nanaimo's best kept musical entertainment secrets. Our aim is to give non-professional musicians an audience and to promote "home grown music" that wouldn't be heard otherwise. We are constantly surprised and pleased by the calibre of local musicians, and we can hear them here! It's the best bang for 5 entertainment bucks! We have an open stage at the start of our evenings, and encourage people to sign up to do 3-song/10 minute set, and we usually have around 8 acts. Then we present a feature act, often with local musicians, which is chosen to encourage singing along and a repertoire of music in the tradition of folk music genres - old songs, singalongs, traditional songs, bluegrass, country, protest/political etc. We charge a donation amount at the door to defay the costs of hall rental and publicity. and we give an honorarium from that to our feature act for travel expenses. We allow the sales of CDs from individual musicians also.

This month we feature Dreamyth, a wonderful group of musicians from Gabriola Island. Our audiences have heard Dreamyth in 3-song open stage sets, and have asked for them to do a full feature - at last, they are doing one for us! Their music is a lovely blend of tunes and songs, played and sung expertly in a woven delight of aural experience. This will be our last coffee house until next September so come and experience our magical musical experiences on June 21st.
