Evening - 7:30pm Matinees - 2:00pm
This moving drama, which tiptoes toward sentimentality without ever reaching it, is the most surprising play that [MacIvor's] ever written.— New York Times Told in MacIvor’s candid style, Marion Bridge has a rhythm and a dark, edgy, cynical humour that is typically Cape Breton.
Marion Bridge is a family drama about three sisters reconnecting at their mother’s deathbed. All three have journeys. Each of them, Agnes, Theresa, and Louise, deals with disappointments, jealousy and rivalry in a distinctive way. Agnes (Heather Haseltine) a struggling actress buries herself in alcohol and bitter humour. Theresa (Vicki Barta) is a nun who lives a cloistered life and shields herself in responsibility. Louise (Cheryl Dendoff), the “strange one” of the family, lives in her own world of daytime television.
As the story unfolds and the women are faced with more hurdles, cracks in their protective bubble appear, allowing them to bridge the gap, and re-establish the special bonds that keep sisters together. Join the cast, director Wendy Punter and the impressive creative team of Don Punter (set design), Ken McCready (light design), Celia Wesselman (costume coordinator), Alistair McVey (sound design), Linda Attley (stage manager), Judi Andrews (producer} to see what happens when the Cape Breton home is opened up to the energy of a full house.
This touching drama infused with humour and sure to be a crowd pleaser, is ECHO Players’ entry into Theatre B.C’s. North Island Zone Festival.
