Vancouver Island music fans making their summer plans will want to mark one very special event on this year’s calendar. The Cowichan Valley’s longest running folk music festival is getting back to its roots for a one-day live celebration at Providence Farm. The 38th Annual Islands Folk Festival will welcome back in person attendance.

The festival, one of Vancouver Island’s premiere family friendly music events since 1985, promises a very full single day’s event featuring a diverse range of musical styles and a stellar line-up of performers. Festival Artistic Director Bruce Gerrish says of this year’s festival: “In past years we’ve run the festival over three days, and last year because of COVID we had to present it virtually. This year we’re excited to welcome live audiences and performers back to Providence Farm. We’ve limited this year’s event to one dynamite day in order to ensure we have the infrastructure to safely accommodate all the concertgoers. We are looking forward to welcoming many old friends and some new faces both on stage and off.”

This year’s festival will offer 25 acts over five stages . “We’ve put together a fantastic line-up of performers including Grammy award winner Alex Cuba, Harry Manx, Jim Byrnes, Shari Ulrich and many more exciting acts that we hope will appeal to a very broad audience. The Islands Folk Festival has always been focused on music fans, families and fun and I think we have all the ingredients for a fabulous home coming and an incredible day,” said Gerrish.

The Festival will once  again offer camping on-site starting Friday, July 22 and will feature a variety of food vendors and a beverage garden and a “Wee Folks” kids zone. Providence Farm is an idyllic 400-acre property situated in the Cowichan Valley. The farm is located at 1843 Tzouhalem Rd. in Duncan B.C. It has hosted the festival for nearly 40 years.
