Island Soul Choir presents "Soul from the Rock"

Island Soul Choir Rocks - Like gospel and world music? If so, you’re sure to love Soul From The Rock, a rockin’ concert being presented by the Island Soul Choir (formerly Vancouver Island Gospel and World Music Choir).

Island Soul Choir has more than 100 singers from Victoria to Campbell River, and Port Alberni to Gabriola Island. Their enthusiasm is so infectious as they perform, you will no doubt be on your feet, singing along with the traditional spirituals, gospel songs and soulful African tunes.

Unlike traditional choirs, Island Soul Choir rehearses only once a month in large part because their conductor, Brian Tate, has to travel from Vancouver to rehearse the choir — a concept even he believed would never work! “I’m delighted to be proven wrong,” Brian says.

Nanaimo Youth Choir, under the direction of Marian Smith, is the featured guest at both concerts. This group of young choristers regularly participate in many activities in Nanaimo, including the 2008 Nanaimo Sings! Choral Festival, and they are consistent winners at various BC choral competitions. Their young voices and wonderful musicianship touch everyone who hears them.
