HILARIO DURAN is one of the top virtuoso jazz pianists from Cuba. He has gained an illustrious career and a solid reputation; along with Chucho Valdes and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Hilario Duran is ranked among the greats as one of the most important contemporary Cuban pianists.

After graduating from the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldan in 1981, Hilario joined trumpeter Arturo Sandoval's group as pianist, musical director and arranger, where he stayed until 1990. During this time he performed at major jazz festivals around the world, sharing the stage with such outstanding musicians as Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Michel Legrand, Wynton Marsalis and many others. Hilario has worked as musical arranger, producer and pianist on many recordings with a variety of artists in Cuba and abroad.

After his tenure with Arturo Sandoval, Hilario began his own highly regarded group called Perspectiva and truly came into his own. Then in 1990, he joined pianists Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Frank Emilio on Jane Bunnett's Juno Award winning CD "Spirits of Havana". Hilario's CD "New Danzon" won the 2005 Juno award for the best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year.

In 2007, his eclectic big band album, "From the Heart", set a new standard for large ensemble Latin jazz projects in Canada, again picking up a Juno nomination and three National Jazz Awards. Hilario is currently working on his new ALMA Records Recording with a release date soon to be announced.
