This group of six artists represents a new generation and new era for art in Japan. Their work explores the complex realities of our globalized world and the strength of the contemporary art scene in Tokyo and beyond. As part of this exhibition artist Yoshiaki Kaihatsu will be participating in a week long residency to build an architectural structure from recycled materials in response to the Gallery’s Shinto Shrine. The exhibition includes work in a variety of media, including drawing, installation, photography, sculpture, textile and video. This exhibition includes a major publication with essays by co-curators Lisa Baldiserra and Sara Knelman.
