Vancouver Island University’s Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation is pleased to present Exploring Reconciliation, a free monthly lecture series that aims to stimulate community dialogue.

On Monday, January 8, Adam Olsen, MLA for Saanich North and the Islands, will provide insights into the BC government’s approach to renewing relations with Indigenous peoples during his talk - Moving Forward with Reconciliation: “We are in transition. Social, environmental and economic changes are underway. Disruption in the status quo is happening across the spectrum and the relationship between the provincial government and Aboriginal people in British Columbia needs to change to keep pace.

“The Confidence and Supply Agreement signed between the BC NDP and BC Green Party covers a vast policy landscape. It is founded on a commitment to change the relationship through adopting the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People, the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and respecting the decisions of the provincial and Supreme Court. “Words are not enough. Change will require action. Creating certainty in British Columbia will require open communication, collaboration and creative thinking. In this lecture Adam Olsen (SȾHENEP), MLA of Saanich North and the Islands, will provide an insight into the British Columbia government and its approach to renewing relations with Aboriginal people.”
