EXOTICA: AN INTERPRETIVE CELEBRATION OF DANCE
This is an innovative art exhibition with a collaborative and community emphasis. ‘Exotica’ is about expressing the beauty of ballet and contemporary dance. It is about the grace of a pirouette recorded with the flourish of a paint stroke, a sensual embrace captured in the delicate lighting of a photograph, and harmonious rhythms symbolized in the exquisite curves of a sculpture. It is a unique collaboration by four of Victoria's award winning visual artists, as they present their intriguing interpretations based on presentations by several nationally and internationally acclaimed dancers.
This collaborative project would not have been possible without the kind and generous contribution of time and talent from the dancers and artists. In appreciation, Herman Surkis will be donating 50% of the proceeds of his own art sales, to the Ballet Victoria Society.
The exhibit is booked for the month of April 2010 at the Victoria Arts Connection Gallery, an excellent fit as the Victoria Arts Connection is the home of various dance schools as well as Dance Victoria. It is also booked for the Martin Batchelor Gallery for February, 2011 with largely new works based on the original collaboration.
