The Archangel Marketplace is the first ecumenical marketplace in North America, hosted by All Saints of Alaska Orthodox Church, partnering with other local churches and Christian artists, artisans, hand-crafters, publishers, businesses, non-profit and charitable agencies, writers and musicians to reflect the unique beauty of Christianity.

LOCATION: University of Victoria, Students' Union Building

It is being held in conjunction with the 2010 Canadian Archdiocesan Assembly of the Orthodox Church in America, a conference that takes place only once every three years.

Usually exhibition spaces at conferences are closed to the public.

However, the Coordinator responsible for the marketplace brought with her the seed of an idea:

* To make the marketplace open to the public

* To involve local mainstream churches and Christian faith communities in promoting their artists, artisans and craftspeople and create an alternate venue for Christian fellowship

* To make this an ecumenical ministry

Along with the art, crafts, books, gifts, and music, the Archangel Marketplace is presenting the debut of North America's newest Byzantine choral ensemble, Eirene.

We are hosting a book-signing of recently-published memoirs with the venerable Rev. Dr. Wee Chong Tan, who is an honorary citizen of Victoria, was one of the founding faculty of Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, founded the Canadian College of Chinese Medicine in Victoria, is an Honorary Confucian Scholar, and served as a priest at St. John the Divine for many years.

In a related venue, Dr. Gabor Mate, well-known for his work in clinics in Vancouver's East Side, will be giving two afternoon lectures; this is a paid event.

The Archangel Marketplace is free, family-friendly and wheelchair accessible.
