Antoinette Hérivel: Observation to Imagination Art Show at the Hive Gallery
Monday, March 13th, 2017
10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
I am a painter living on Gabriola for the past 5 years. I came from Saskatchewan where I had an active career as a professional artist for 30 years, including working as an arts educator in schools and at the university level. Since being here, I have been exploring different series of paintings and drawings. Since my time in B.C. I have shown work on Gabriola and Vancouver as well as in group shows on Vancouver island.
I will be presenting an exhibition at the Hive Emporium, on Gabriola Island ( Village area) between March 10 to April 3rd.
The opening will be on Friday March 10 7-9 p.m.
An artist talk will be on Saturday March 18 , 1-2 p.m.
The title of the show is " Antoinette Hérivel: Observation to Imagination", which describes the dual approaches I use to create artwork.
I will be showing a selection of pieces completed since I have lived on Gabriola. I would describe myself as a narrative artist interested in histories, domesticity, autobiography and place. Although many of my paintings are painted in the still life genre, they are suggestive of narrative. The "still life" work will include some paintings of dresses from a 4 year series of paintings about clothing, paintings with antiques and memorabilia and food. These paintings all share a common bond in that I paint from observation rather than photographs. There are 10 new works completed in the last 3 months, including a new series of narrative, figure paintings, created through imagination. These are a series of "allegories" that I want the viewer to be intrigued by.
All the paintings can be found on my website http://AntoinetteHerivel.ca. I invite everyone to come and visit The Hive Gallery on Gabriola and see my my work.
