The self-guided tour of eight gardens features the art and industriousness of local gardeners as well as the opportunity to learn pearls of wisdom from these outdoor enthusiasts.
The Show and Sale component of the event, begins at 8:45am at Aggie Hall on First Avenue in Ladysmith, and will include a $3 continental breakfast. At 9:15 local gardening writer and enthusiast will speak on “Avoiding the Gardener’s Pitfalls”, and with some friends from the Ladysmith Saltair Garden Club, will answer general gardening questions. Local garden-related businesses will exhibit items for sale all day. Raffle draws will be held at closing (4:00pm).
“This is tremendous opportunity for friends and families to spend a leisurely day amidst the buds, blooms and gardens of Ladysmith,” commented John Mulrooney of the Ladysmith Rotary Club. “Gardeners of all skills levels can admire the private gardens otherwise unavailable to them.
The garden tour starts at 10am after all visitors have received their maps and brochures at Aggie Hall. “Chances are you will put your gardening gloves on with renewed enthusiasm the next day,” said Mulrooney.
A very popular addition to the Garden Tour, Show and Sale is the raffle which this year features four prizes: a propane patio heater, a cedar arbour, two cedar lawn chairs, and two twelve month passes to Butchart Gardens. Raffle tickets go on sale as of April 10th and any remaining tickets will be sold on the day of the tour.
Tickets for the Garden Tour, priced at $15, are available in advance at the 49th Parallel Grocery Store in Ladysmith, Dig This (Rutherford Road) or Madill Equipment (Bowen Road) in Nanaimo as well as at Aggie Hall on the day of the event. The Garden Tour, Show and Sale is organized by the Rotary Club of Ladysmith to provide support for local and world community needs.
