Are you curious about your family tree but aren't sure where to start? The Victoria Genealogical Society is a great starting point.

Meeting on the second Thursday of each month from September through June at 7:30 pm at the Gordon Head United Church, 4201 Tyndall Avenue, Victoria, the Victoria Genealogical Society offers a programme of lectures and learning for the family history enthusiast. Beginner Family Tree researchers are always welcome!

Visit our website for details on guest speakers and upcoming meetings. http://www.victoriags.org/meetings.htm

The Victoria Genealogical Society (VGS) was established in 1978 as a non-profit volunteer society whose aim is to further the study of genealogy - the exciting search for one's ancestors and family history.

The VGS is a great place to meet people who truly care about the past and families; people who can teach you wonderful lessons about research and history. You can work directly with these people, learn from them, and help each other as you search for your family.

The VGS meets monthly, welcoming new members and encouraging more seasoned researchers to share their experiences and swap stories. Members and guests chat about Family Tree research and enjoy a guest speaker whose presentation is of interest to the Family Tree enthusiast.

Between meetings, the Victoria Genealogical Society Resource Centre in Vic West is open for browsing or research with a large collection of books, maps, periodicals and working papers of genealogical interest. Not just for local research, the library has materials covering all provinces and territories of Canada as well as the US, UK and other countries. There are classes and seminars happening all the time at the Victoria Genealogical Society.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) bring together members with similar interests and research objectives to participate in small, focused meetings and discussions. SIGs generally meet once a month at the VGS Library, in groups ranging from 4 to 10 people. Visit our website for Library hours and location - www.victoriags.org/library.htm

The Society’s Journal is published four times a year and contains interesting articles contributed by members as well as international genealogical news. The VGS website (www.VictoriaGS.org) offers a searchable database and links to other resources and upcoming events.

Membership rates for the Victoria Genealogical Society are $45.00 for individuals or the Family membership at $70.00 (Canadian) per year. If you'd like info about membership please send an e-mail to Membership@VictoriaGS.org and we'll get back to you.
