A Festive Indian Dinner with Khalil Akhtar

Most of us rely on the old standby: roast turkey, potatoes, gravy, stuffing and vegetables. This year, why not branch out and try Indian during the holidays? This meal is centered around one of Northern India’s most celebrated baked rice dishes: biryani. Participants will learn about the separate components that go into the dish and the possible variations. Traditionally, biryani is a staple at major festivals and weddings.
chicken biryani - an elaborate baked rice dish cooked in layers in a sealed pot with spiced chicken, spices, nuts and saffron
bhindi masala - sauteed okra with tomatoes, onions and chilis
seekh kebab - roasted sausage-like kebabs
gulab jamun (dessert)
