Stefanie Falz is an Emergency Physician currently working at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. She was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada with her parents while she was in high school. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Alberta in 2002 and worked for several years in rural and remote places, including stints on Baffin Island. In 2015 she spent six months working for Doctors without Borders in a camp for internally displaced persons in South Sudan. She is interested in global justice and working with underprivileged populations.

Reaching Out Assisting Refugees (ROAR) is a community group based on Vancouver Island which resettles LGBT refugees from around the world who face serious persecution. LGBT refugees resettled to Vancouver Island can make a new beginning and experience freedom. ROAR has formed two sponsorship groups to help two people who are awaiting resettlement. We hope to help other refugees when enough human and financial resources have been gathered. ROAR is run by volunteers. We partner with Brechin United Church in Nanaimo and cooperate with Vancouver's Rainbow Refugee.
