2013 Seedy Saturday: Victoria's 20th Annual Seed & Garden Show

Can't wait to spend more time in the garden and plan out your growing seasons? You won't find any GMO seeds here - all the organic, heritage and pesticide-free vegetable and flower seeds are saved by the growers who sell them. Small nurseries offer native and specialty plants, small fruit and nut trees, bamboo, succulents, bulbs and more. If you don't want to start your own, there are early vegetable seedlings, along with sprouts, cheese, mason bee cocoons and boxes, products from and for the garden, displays, chef demonstrations, young kids' activities, and more.
Take a small step in ensuring seed diversity and accessibility for the planet: save some seeds in your garden this year, and learn how to do this with Mary Alice Johnson in her seed saving talk. If you have excess saved seeds we welcome them at the community Seed Exchange for trade or donation. (Please ensure the seeds are cleaned and labelled).
There is always something to learn about growing, so plan on attending a talk or two: how to wield those pruners, how you might introduce some permaculture design to a portion of your garden, how to solve problems with your soil, or how to create natural habitats in small urban areas (no, not for deer).
If you want to become a farmer, join Robin Tunnicliffe share her story, and learn of resources and programs to help YOU get growing. In another session, become informed about how our community can cooperate and distribute unused food instead of wasting it. Or, join the conversation about how we can regionally change the way we eat, or transform our streets into edible neighbourhoods.
There is always more to learn, so come early, as the educational sessions fill up fast. You'll find the complete speaker schedule at:
http://jamesbaymarket.com/seedysaturday/seedy-saturday-speakers-2013.
Victoria’s Master Gardeners come with their reference books and are eager to tackle your gardening problems. The downstairs Cafe offers light lunches and snacks, a space to take a break and peruse a seed catalogue or decide which speaker presentation to attend next.
Victoria’s Seedy Saturday is about community: a friendly, inviting and supportive environment of exhibitors and attendees sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm about growing food and plants in tune with nature.
